Searching for a new home sometimes can be a hard time because of house odors.

Nobody likes to talk about stinky home or household odors, but it’s really important to deal with enclosures environments, food spills, and waste can make your home smell musty or bad since those smells settle into your rooms and, like an unwanted houseguest, refuse to leave.

Getting rid of odors

We become accustomed to the odors in your home and it’s not until either someone very honest comes to visit or we return home after some time away that we realize just how stinky the home is.

Rather than plugging deodorizers into your electrical sockets or lighting an arsenal of scented candles, use a few household staples such as baking soda, distilled white vinegar, coffee grounds, vanilla extract, and lemons to get rid of odors once and for all.

1 ) If your trash cans stink

Wash the inside and out with hot soapy water, rinse clean, and dry thoroughly. To prevent future odors, try one of these solutions:

Dust the bottom of the garbage can with scented cat litter or throw a few citrus peels lemon, or orange in the bottom of the can before you insert your garbage bag.

You can also dust the bottom of your garbage can with baking soda or unused coffee grounds either will neutralize future odors.

While pets are obvious causes of stinky home or home odors, other sources are a bit harder to track down, you need to check your drawers or closets, old furniture and cabinetry can make anything you put inside smell, too.

2 ) Drawers Odors

So before you fill your drawers or closets, crinkle up some newspaper, sprinkle it with distilled white vinegar, and stuff it inside each musty drawer or place it on the closet shelf for a couple of days to absorb the bad odor.

Once the smell is gone, keep drawers smelling fresh by placing scented dryer sheets, old bottles of eau de cologne in the drawers or on the shelves.

3 ) Stinky Refrigerator

Don’t forget your refrigerator, start by cleaning out the shelves and drawers. Scrub all shelves with a mixture of hot water and baking soda, then wipe with a mixture of white vinegar and warm water.

To prevent odors, keep a box of baking soda open on a shelf in the back of your refrigerator and freezer, and replace it monthly.

Alternatively, soak a couple of cotton balls in vanilla extract and place them on a small dish in the back of your refrigerator.

4 ) Stinky Sink

Smells coming from the kitchen sink start with the garbage disposal, empty a tray of ice cubes down the drain and let the disposal run until they’re ground up, then run cold water through the drain for about 30 seconds, place pour ½ cup of baking soda down the drain, followed by a cup of vinegar, the drain will begin to foam and fizz and pop.

Allow the self-made volcano to erupt to its fullest and when it’s finished, run hot water down the drain.

Fill a small saucepan with water and bring to a boil. Add the ingredients from your favorite recipe, continue to boil for a few minutes, then turn the heat down to simmer.

Add water as needed, usually every 30 minutes or so. Simmer pots are more of an art than a science, you can try many recipes as Cinnamon Apple, Lemon & Orange, Creamsicle, Lavender, Bay Leaf, Colorful Cranberry, or Pumpkin Spice.
